Tour Details

Ned Kelly the very mention of the name evokes pictures of villain, hero, the down trodden and the unsuppressed. Benalla and the surrounding region has some of the most incredible memorabilia associated with the Kelly story. The sights on this tour will be taken in chronological order.

  • We start the day with our journey to Stringybark Creek, where in 1878, the Kelly gang became outlaws after killing Police Constables Lonigan, Scanlan and Sergeant Kennedy in the line of duty.
  • We'll spend time exploring Glenrowan and the Siege site at the Ann Jones Inn. The Siege of Glenrowan resulted in the deaths of Steve Hart, Dan Kelly and Joe Byrne, the latter buried in Benalla Cemetery (covered in our Ned Kelly Town Tour). Martin Cherry, a hostage in the Ann Jones Inn is also mortally wounded, he too is buried in Benalla. Ned Kelly was seriously hurt, captured and depatched to Benalla by train in a portable cell.
  • After this we'll move on to Greta cemetery where Ned is now buried following the relocation of his remains from Old Melbourne Gaol in January 2013. His mother is also buried here.
